The chapter project to replace the name plaques around the base of the Explorers at the Portage statue is under way. Board member Phyllis Freiz is getting some costs for the new plaques that will be granite. We opted for the granite instead of slate because of the greater longevity of that harder stone. We should have an answer by the May board meeting.
A preliminary part of the project is cutting the bushes back that have overgrown the concrete base of the statue covering the name plaques. The photos below show that situation and the work underway to cut them back. Another work session and the bushes should all be cut back to where they need to be.
